Plays currently in development at Stageplays include: Sharks, Larry Swansen's modern morality tale played out against the backdrop of a confidence scheme set within the casualty insurance industry; John Kallas's Santa.Com - The Musical, a fantasy for families about the down-sizing of Santa's workshop, a victim of the internet shopping craze; and Irish Elks, Al Meglin's play abou the end of civilization.
In early development, Stageplays has presented more than 225 readings of new plays by 115 established and emerging playwrights, composers and lyricists, involving over 900 actors in more than 800 roles. Plays read include: Mindy Byer's Baby Love, centered the ticking of the biological clock; Marianne Flatley's Wish List, a comedy examining advertising and the consequences of getting what one wishes for; Roy Edroso's Booze and Spaghetti, a coming of age tale among Manhattan's East Village literati; James MacGuire's Freedom, a dialectical drama set in an abortion clinic; Headhunters, Mike Vogel's critique on executive recruiting; and D.C. Dreams, Lloyd Pace's analysis of pervasive corruption in our nation's capital, among many others.
In workshop, Stageplays has presented: John Walsh's Crossfire, a journey through the urban drug frontier; Lloyd Pace's The Bridegroom, a gnawing account of the assassination of a Southern judge at the dawn of the Civil Rights movement; Leslie Collins' and Robert Collister's romance thriller, Vladimir: The Dracula Musical; Patrick Nolan's Midnight Rainbows, a biographical treatise on Eugene O'Neill; and Roger Pautz's Duck Blind, a comedy on the responsibility of inheritance.
